For five decades, the First Light Community of Mobile (FLCOM) has been shining a beacon of hope and opportunity for
thousands of individuals and families in the Mobile Bay area
. Founded in 1972, FLCOM has been dedicated to providing essential services and resources that empower individuals and families to overcome
poverty, homelessness, and other challenges
and improve their lives.
Over the years, FLCOM has evolved to meet the changing needs of its community. Initially focusing on emergency shelter and food assistance, the organization soon expanded to include education, job training, and mental health services. Today, FLCOM offers a wide range of programs and initiatives that address the root causes of poverty and provide
individuals with the tools they need to build better futures

Some of FLCOM’s most notable achievements include the establishment of the Family Development Center, a comprehensive community resource center that offers education, job training, and mental health services; the Mobile County Opportunity School, an alternative education program for at-risk students; and the
Housing First initiative
, which provides permanent housing solutions for individuals experiencing homelessness.
