Lions Club: A Force for Change

Lions Clubs International, one of the world’s largest
service organizations, is known for people helping people. With over
1.4 million members in 205 countries and geographic areas, Lions clubs are
dedicated to improving local communities and addressing
global issues. An engaging anecdote: In India, a Lions club
provided over 30,000 pairs of eyeglasses to those in need, transforming lives
and enabling people to see the world around them with renewed clarity.

Upcoming Lions Club Events:

This year, Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is hosting a series of events to further its mission. In June, the

Global Convention

in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, will gather Lions from around
the world to learn, connect, and share innovative solutions. Then, in October, the

Lions Pride Run

invites participants
to join the virtual race and raise funds for local and global projects. Lastly, in November, the

SightFirst Eye Hospital

in Lahore, Pakistan, will celebrate its grand opening, providing critical eye care to thousands. These events represent the significance

Event 1: Annual Charity Gala Dinner

Event Details

The Annual Charity Gala Dinner is an eagerly-awaited event that takes place every year in the heart of the city. This year’s gala is scheduled for October 15, 2023, at the Grand Heritage Hotel. The theme for this year’s event is “Unity in Diversity.”

Previous Galas

The Annual Charity Gala Dinner has been a beloved tradition for over two decades. Past galas have taken place at various iconic venues, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Plaza Hotel. The event is renowned for its star-studded guest list, featuring notable attendees such as Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, and Robert De Niro. Previous auctions have included one-of-a-kind experiences, such as a private dinner with Tom Hanks, or once-in-a-lifetime trips to exotic destinations. The proceeds from these galas have collectively raised over $25 million for various charities and causes.

Guest Speakers and Performers

This year’s gala promises to be another unforgettable evening. The event will feature speeches from renowned humanitarian Kofi Annan and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai. In addition, the evening will include a performance by acclaimed singer-songwriter John Legend.

I Event 2: Community Service Day

Date: Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 14, 2022.
Location: We’ll be gathering at the Community Center Park located in the heart of our city.
Objectives: Our annual Community Service Day brings together volunteers from all walks of life to make a difference in our local community. This year, we aim to engage over 500 enthusiastic volunteers who will dedicate their time and energy to completing various projects. Our primary objectives are to build stronger community bonds, foster a spirit of generosity, and address the needs of those most in need within our city.

Recap of Past Events

Last year, we welcomed over 450 volunteers who participated in 20 different projects. Together, they contributed over 1,200 hours of labor, painting houses for the elderly, cleaning local parks, and volunteering at food banks. Their collective efforts not only brightened the lives of those in need but also strengthened the bonds within our community. One volunteer shared, “‘Volunteering for Community Service Day was a life-changing experience for me. It gave me a new perspective on the power of community and how we can all make a difference in someone’s life.’

This Year’s Service Projects

Join us this year as we embark on a new set of projects designed to create lasting impact. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work on initiatives such as:

  • Meals on Wheels: Delivering nutritious meals to elderly residents who are unable to prepare their own food.

Event 3: International Peace Poster Contest Awards Ceremony

Brief background and explanation: The Lions International Peace Poster Contest, established in 1985, is an annual artistic competition organized by Lions Clubs International. The contest invites children from around the world to express their interpretation of peace through artwork. With the belief that every child has the ability to create a better future, the contest fosters creativity and promotes international understanding among young people.

Description of this year’s contest: This year, the International Peace Poster Contest attracted over 28,000 entries from students in more than 100 countries. The contest focused on three themes: peace, unity, and respect. Participants were allowed to submit artwork in two divisions: Junior Division (ages 6-10) and Senior Division (ages 11-13).

Recap of previous years’ contests: Throughout the years, the contest has produced numerous noteworthy posters and artists. In 2017, a poster from a young artist in Mongolia depicting interconnected hands forming a peace sign was recognized as the Grand Prize winner. In 2016, a powerful image of children holding up lanterns to symbolize hope and unity took home first place.

Date and Location:: The International Peace Poster Contest Awards Ceremony took place on September 25, 2023, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The event brought together winners from the regional and international level to celebrate their accomplishments.

The ceremony featured keynote speeches from esteemed international figures such as UNICEF Executive Director, Catherine Russell. The event was also graced by the presence of Lions International President, Dr. Naresh Aggarwal.

Description of the contest winners:

During the ceremony, the Grand Prize was awarded to a Senior Division contestant from Japan who illustrated a beautiful scene of children playing together in harmony. The Junior Division winner, hailing from South Africa, created an artwork featuring colorful birds coming together to build a nest as a symbol of unity.
