Our Long-Term Experience with the Kia EV6’s Software: Hits and Misses in 2024
The Kia EV6, an all-electric vehicle (EV) launched in 2021, has turned heads with its stunning design and impressive specifications. However, the software experience has been a mixed bag for us during our long-term ownership.
Hits: Intuitive Infotainment System
The 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a part of the optional Technology Package, has been a delight to use. Its intuitive interface and quick response times make it easy to navigate menus, adjust climate controls, and play music. The integration of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is seamless and hassle-free.
Over-the-Air Updates
One of the most significant advantages of having software in a vehicle is the ability to receive over-the-air (OTA) updates. The Kia EV6 has this feature, and we have witnessed several improvements through these updates, such as new features, bug fixes, and enhanced performance.
Misses: Subpar Voice Recognition
Despite the infotainment system’s strengths, its voice recognition capabilities leave much to be desired. Inconsistent recognition of commands can lead to frustration while attempting to adjust temperature settings or change music tracks hands-free.
Connectivity Issues
Wi-Fi hotspot
We have experienced occasional connectivity issues with the Kia EV6’s Wi-Fi hotspot. These disruptions can affect passengers who rely on a stable internet connection for work or entertainment during long trips.
Solution: A Better Integrated Telematics System
To address these challenges, Kia could consider integrating a more robust telematics system into the EV6. This would provide consistent and reliable connectivity for passengers, as well as advanced features like real-time traffic updates and remote vehicle control.
