In this exclusive sit-down interview, we had the pleasure of speaking with Charlamagne tha God, the renowned radio personality and host of the The Breakfast Club on Power 105.1 FM in New York City. Born Henry DeAndre Jackson on July 29, 1978, in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, Charlamagne shares his
early life
and the challenges he faced growing up. Raised by his grandparents, he experienced firsthand the struggles of poverty and the impact it had on his community.
Education and early career
Despite the hardships, Charlamagne was determined to succeed. He attended college at Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where he studied Mass Communications and Journalism. After graduating, he began his career in radio broadcasting. His journey was not an easy one as he faced numerous rejections before finally landing a gig at a local station.
Rise to fame
“I’ve always been a hustler,” Charlamagne said. “I knew that radio was my calling, and I wasn’t going to give up until I made it.”
